Visual arts are vital to a healthy and thriving community! We look forward to introducing you to a variety of national, regional and local artists in our two galleries and gift shop. The Art Center hosts close to 40 exhibitions every year that are FREE and accessible to our community.

The Arts Center also houses a permanent collection of objects by local, regional, national, and international artists, including works by Clare Smith, Jimmie Crown, Joanne & Harland Goudie, Josef Albers, Dorothea Tanning . . . and many more! Selections from our permanent collection are on rotating view in the 3rd floor Joanne R. Goudie Permanent Collection Gallery.

Current and Upcoming Exhibitions

  • EXHIBITING WITH US

    There is no cost to the artist for exhibitions scheduled at the Arts Center, outside of application/entry fees for juried shows. However, the expectation is that the Arts Center is supported through a commission fee of 40% (or 30% for GCAC Artist Members) from any work sold during the exhibition — pieces should be priced accordingly. IF the exhibition does not have pieces for sale, there is a flat rate of $500 (for Kleine Gallery) and $250 for use of the first- or second-floor middle galleries.

    MARK & JEANNETTE KLEINE GALLERY

    Our main first floor gallery is a grand space, our largest, that accepts 2D, 3D, and installation works. This gallery is scheduled by a committee on a rolling basis, 12-18 months in advance. Artists may submit their CV, artist statement, and no less than five (5) images representing works they would like to include in their exhibition to exhibition@galesburgarts.org, SUBJECT: Kleine Gallery.

    MIDDLE FIRST FLOOR GALLERY

    Our middle first floor gallery is reserved for emerging artists. Artists may submit their artist statement, and no less than three (3) images representing works they would like to include in their exhibition to exhibition@galesburgarts.org, SUBJECT: Emerging Exhibition. Exhibitions in this space are scheduled on a first come, first served basis.

    ARTISTS’ GALLERY

    This middle second floor gallery is reserved for our community of working artists (studios), our Artist Members, and those artists who are part of our Studios Midwest Artist Residency program. It may also be scheduled for use by artists and special events pending availability. Artists may submit their interest in this gallery to exhibition@galesburgarts.org, SUBJECT: Artists’ Gallery.

    JURIED EXHIBITIONS

    The Arts Center currently hosts two major juried exhibitions with cash prizes: GALEX (nationally competitive; usually an end of January deadline; application fee of $25/$20), and Members & Friends (regional; usually an end of July deadline; entry fee of $15/$10). Both are announced two months in advance on our website, social media channels, and by mail. We will be adding a photography exhibition in 2025!

  • Artists interested in having items for sale in our gift shop should send an email of interest to giftshop@galesburgarts.org, and include images of their work, as well as price points.

    As with exhibitions, the consignment fee is 40% (30% for GCAC Artist Members) from any work sold in the gift shop. Artists should also expect to rotate their inventory quarterly. The Gift Shop Committee reserves the right to choose work based on our specific inventory needs and appropriate price points.
